Obituary for William Garwood Dean Hutchinson Sr.

William Garwood Dean Hutchinson, Sr., of Lambertville, NJ, died peacefully in his home on Thursday, October 22, 2020. He was 91.

Born and raised in Trenton, NJ, Bill was a longtime resident of Lambertville. Bill and his wife Mary Ann Howe Hutchinson moved to Fountain Hills, Arizona in the eighties but returned home to Lambertville in 1992. Bill grew up in a large lively family. He was a graduate of Trenton High School. A man of great energy, Bill was rarely idle. He served in the National Guard, 112th Field Artillery, retiring as a Captain. He was a field artillery instructor. He remained active with the 112th Field Artillery Association until this year and his dedication was recognized by his induction into the Honorable Order of St. Barbara, the patron saint of artillerymen. Bill also served with the US Army as a retention officer with the rank of Sergeant. He was employed by the Department of Transportation for the State of New Jersey starting in construction and working his way up to an inspector. In the evenings Bill was a bartender at the Rendezvous Bar in Trenton and at private parties. While in Arizona he owned and operated the Hot Dog Hutch. Bill was an excellent bowler and earned trophies in his competitive leagues. He umpired for the South Hunterdon Little League, was a skilled gardener and a stained-glass artist. He proudly took care of the gardens at his home at the South Hunterdon Apartments. An active member of the Old Rocks Church in West Amwell, Bill sang with the choir and served as a church trustee. He loved music, had a beautiful singing voice, played harmonica and was a fan of the Blawenburg Band. Bill was a volunteer with the Lambertville Historical Society and was a member of the Hunterdon Garden Guild. Whatever Bill set out to do, he excelled at. He was a good friend to many and was the first to extend a helping hand when needed.

He was the husband of the late Mary Ann Howe Hutchinson, the father of the late William G. D. Hutchinson, Jr.; the son of the late Frank E. and Irene M. Dean Hutchinson and the brother of the late Frank E. Hutchinson, Jr., Peter Hutchinson, Mae Norcross, Mary Shellenbarger, Ida Connors, Walter Hutchinson and Laura McMurray. Bill was also predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his children Mary Ann McElhoes Byrnes. Bill is survived by his companion Carol Storr of Lambertville; daughters Brenda Hutchinson (husband Norman Tuck) of San Francisco, CA and Lisa Buford of Emigrant, MT; his step-daughter Laura Edinger of Devon, PA; his grandchildren Orion Beaufort, Paul Buford, Benjamin Buford, Kayleigh Pollert, Hannah Hutchinson, Ginger Hutchinson and Andrew Cheung; his great-grandchildren Cara, James, Edward and Rose Beaufort and Maddagyn Pollert; his brother Jack Hutchinson; and his many nieces and nephews and their families.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at 1:30 pm at Holcombe-Riverview Cemetery, Main Street (Rt 29 S) at Rt 202, Lambertville, NJ 08530.
