Obituary for Mary Jeffries Morgan

Mary Jeffries Morgan, 96, of Lambertville, NJ, died on Friday, June 12, 2020, in the family home where she was born.

Mary was raised in a large and loving family, one of eight children born to Albert and Mary Gibbs Jeffries. She attended Lambertville Public Schools. After graduation from Lambertville High School she enrolled in the Nursing School at Harlem Hospital, a career path she shared with three of her sisters, Jane, Ruth and Annabelle. She joined the staff of Harlem Hospital as a registered nurse where she worked for six years. Mary subsequently went to work for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (MetLife) at the Riverton Houses in Harlem, a large residential complex developed by Metropolitan Life to meet the needs of their employees and the neighborhood. Mary served as the head nurse on site for the MetLife employees that worked at the complex. She later continued her MetLife career at the old MetLife headquarters on Madison Avenue and 23rd Street in New York City, retiring after 35 years of service.

Mary loved the cultural life of the city. In her retirement she became a volunteer docent at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, welcoming visitors from around the world and escorting them through the galleries. She returned to her family home in Lambertville 25 years ago.

Mary was devoted to her family. She is survived by her son and his wife Jeffrey and Dana Morgan of Plainfield, NJ; her grandson and his wife Gregory and Amy Morgan of Brick, NJ; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Mary Gibbs Jeffries; her sisters Jane Cunningham, Alberta Hill, Annabelle Bailey and Ruth Silvas and her brothers Ken Jeffries, Joseph Jeffries and Paul Jeffries.

Funeral services will be private.
