Obituary for Charleen Valerio Stevens

Charleen Valerio Stevens, 64, died unexpectedly at her home in Lambertville, NJ on Friday, June 5, 2020.

Known to all as “Charlee,” she will be profoundly missed by her loving husband David Stetson Stevens II; her brother Michael A. Valerio, Jr of Philadelphia; her sister Victoria Ann Valerio and her partner Gina Ferazzi of Riverside, CA; stepchildren Ashley H. Stevens of New York City and Chelsey Fitch and her husband Bobby of North Attleboro, MA and her grandchildren Lily Rose Fitch and Aidan Jackson Fitch.

She was the daughter of the late Michael A. Valerio, Sr and M. Jean Finkbiner Valerio of Phoenixville, PA.

She graduated from Phoenixville High School in 1973 and was the Homecoming Queen and head majorette in the band.

She met her beloved husband David at a Super Bowl gathering hosted by their dear friends, Ted and Joan Swenson, looked into his eyes and knew he was the one.

Charlee and David moved to Lambertville, NJ in 2006. Earlier they lived on a farm in Buckingham, PA where her passion for horses and animals flourished. On their farm, Annandale II, she watched over new foals from her favorite horses. Her cocker spaniels and greyhound rescue Cydney were always by her side.

As a hospital administrator, she was the assistant to Harold Cramer, Chairman of the Board at Graduate Health Systems in Philadelphia for 22 years. In 2006, Charlee earned her real estate license and joined the staff at Lisa James Otto Country Properties in Stockton, NJ. She retired in 2011. She was an accomplished pilot flying out of Doylestown Airport and was a member of the Lambertville Historical Society.

Her family owned the famed Bull Tavern for more than 40 years in Phoenixville, PA and from that Charlee loved to explore restaurants. Even though she had one of the fanciest kitchens in town, she loved to eat out. It was very common to find Charlee and David sharing a meal with family and friends at The Raven in New Hope, PA.

Charlee loved gardening, flower arranging, fashion and the companionship of her current rescue dog Baxter. Her radiant personality, sense of humor and beauty touched everyone, especially family. Any phone call with Charlee, her sister Victoria and brother Michael was full of laughter and love.

Charlee’s forever companion was her husband David; they could be seen walking hand-in-hand to join family in New York, Massachusetts, a small seaside restaurant in Kennebunkport, ME or just walking to a favorite spot near their home in Lambertville, NJ.

She was full of life and will be in our hearts forever.

A memorial service will be announced at a future date.
