Obituary for Jayne L Thorne (Leavitt)

Jayne Leavitt Thorne, 90, of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of Yardley, PA and West Trenton, died on Friday, February 14, 2020.

Born to Lyman and Helen Brady Leavitt on December 5, 1929 in Trenton NJ, Jayne had been a Vero Beach resident for over 20 years. She was predeceased by her husband Charles Wellington Thorne, Jr., her daughter Julia and her parents. She attended Trenton Public Schools, Miss Fine’s School of Princeton and Fairfax Hall in Waynesboro, Virginia. She also studied at the New Jersey School of the Arts. She was an active member of the Friends of the New Jersey State Museum, the Vero Beach Museum and was a past president of the Greenfingers Garden Club (NJ). For many years she served as a docent at the Old Barracks Museum in Trenton and was a member of the New Jersey State Museum, the William Trent House Museum and the General Mercer Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Jayne and Charles were longtime members of the Trenton Country Club and the Moorings Yacht and Country Club in Vero Beach.

Jayne was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Trenton, Princeton and Vero Beach. She also served as secretary and treasurer of the Florence Crittenton Home Society.

A woman of great style and a gracious hostess, Jayne is survived by her children Wendy Niederer (Thomas) of Titusville, NJ, Helen “Bambi” Kuhl (Paul) of Lambertville, Charles Wellington “Wells” Thorne 3rd of Lawrenceville and Timothy Thorne of Atherton, CA; her grandchildren Duncan Niederer of Cummings, GA, Nathaniel Niederer (Erin) of Titusville, Brady Niederer (Pamela) of Gilbert, AZ and Katharine Kuhl Adorno (Adrian Adorno) of Inwood, New York, her 6 great-grandchildren, her 2 nieces and her canine companion, Henry.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 11 am at All Saints Chapel at Trinity Cathedral, 801 West State Street, Trenton, NJ 08618.
Interment will follow at Ewing Church Cemetery, Scotch Road, Ewing, NJ.

Visitation will be held at the cathedral on Thursday morning from 10 am until the start of services.
