Obituary for Ruth Ann Holmes

Ruth Ann Holmes, 79, of Lambertville, NJ, passed away in her sleep on October 17, 2019.

Ruth Ann was born on December 8, 1939, the youngest of three children of Stanley D. Holmes and Christina Young Holmes. Two older brothers, Jack and Dean Holmes pre-deceased her. The family lived in Elizabeth, PA, near Pittsburgh.

Ruth Ann earned a master’s degree focused on communication handicaps from the University of Pittsburgh. Following graduation Ruth Ann, an avid skier, spent a few years skiing with friends in Vail, Colorado. She returned to Pennsylvania to be near her family and taught Special Education in the Amish and Mennonite communities in Lancaster County. She later moved to Princeton, NJ where she met Don Griffin, her husband of 29 years. Together Ruth Ann and Don organized a food co-op in their home and managed the recycling program in Lambertville, NJ, her home for 44 years.

Ruth Ann taught Special Education in the Trenton school system and traveled extensively in the summers. She was a talented gardener, an avid reader and loved a succession of dogs and cats.

Ruth Ann will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her delightful sense of humor and her incredible memory. Her family will miss long conversations with her on a diverse array of subjects from family history to politics to literature.

A remembrance for Ruth Ann will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 12 noon at the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 N. 2nd Avenue, Elizabeth, PA 15037 ( www.bekavacfuneralhome.com). Visitation at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 11 am until the start of services.
