Obituary for Catherine A. Christensen

Catherine Agnes Christensen, of Lambertville, NJ, formerly of Forked River, died on Monday, October 7, 2019. She was 89 years old.

Known to all as Cathy, she was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. She came to the United States at age 18, meeting her husband-to-be during the trip, and made her home in Elizabeth, New Jersey. After raising their family in Rahway, NJ, she and her husband Martin lived in Forked River, NJ for over 40 years. After his passing, Cathy moved to Lambertville to be closer to her family.

Cathy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Nothing pleased her more than spending time with her family and being surrounded by those she loved. Opening her home to family and friends for food and lively conversation were always welcome activities. Cathy was always a very active church member, most recently at Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church in New Hope, and before that at Forked River Presbyterian Church. During her lifetime she was always finding ways to be of service to others, whether as a volunteer at the Food Bank, a deacon at church, a volunteer for Deborah Hospital, or just a good neighbor. After her move to Lambertville, she enjoyed spending time with new friends at both her new church and at the Silver Sneakers exercise program at the Cornerstone Gym. Those who knew her were always inspired by her positive spirit and her ever present smile.

Cathy was the wife of the late Martin Led Christensen, the daughter of the late Hugh and Agnes Grimm McTernan and the sister of the late John and Hugh McTernan. She is survived by her children and their spouses Martin L. Christensen of Lambertville, Cathy C. (Timothy) Sandford of Lambertville and Robert A. (Judy) Christensen of Princeton; her grandchildren and their spouses Martin J. Christensen, Jacqueline (David) Anderson, Scott (Amanda) Sandford, Michael (Samantha) Sandford, Stephen Sandford, Ian Christensen and Renee Christensen; and her great-grandchildren Davin, Chase and Jackson Anderson and Pippa Sandford.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Cathy’s life on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 11 am at Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1680 Aquetong Road, New Hope, PA 18938.

Visitation will be held that morning at the church from 10 am until the start of services.
