Obituary for Phyllis Jean Foss (Whitehead)
Phyllis Jean Foss, 86, of Titusville, New Jersey, died on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at the Greenwood House in Ewing, NJ.
Born and raised in Lambertville, NJ, she grew up in a large loving family where she was known as “Jeanie”. Phyllis and her late husband Henry moved to Titusville over 50 years ago where they made their home and raised their family. Phyllis was a devoted wife, loving mother and doting grandmother. She was a virtuoso in the kitchen, a wonderful cook and baker. She canned her own fruit and vegetables and made a legendary pizza. Phyllis baked the perfect cake without ever looking at a recipe. Her favorite music was country.
A lifelong member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Lambertville, Phyllis sang in the choir, baked for the fundraisers and worked at the weekly workshops making craft items for the annual Christmas bazaar. Her mashed potatoes were a highlight of the church’s roast beef dinners. She was always ready to help those in need. She was the first to volunteer and the last one to go home. Phyllis lived her Christian faith in word and action every day.
Phyllis was the wife of the late Henry “Hank” R. Foss, the daughter of the late Harold and Edith Hann Whitehead and the sister of the late Marion Polazneck, Lois Osmun, Leslie Whitehead and Charles Stanley Whitehead. She is survived by her children and their spouses Henry R. Foss II and his wife Katherine of Corning, NY; Gregory B. Foss and his wife Angelina of Medford, NJ and Susan J. Antos and her husband Steven of Stockton, NJ; her grandchildren Michael Foss, Julianna Foss and Laura Stevenson; her great-grandchildren Madison Webster and Kyler Stevenson; her sister Bernice Whitehead of Ewing and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 28, at 11:30 am at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 108 N. Union Street, Lambertville, NJ 08530.
