Obituary for Anthony Joseph "Tony" Neylon

Anthony Joseph "Tony"  Neylon
Anthony J. Neylon, 90, of Lambertville, New Jersey, died with his devoted family by his side on Thursday, May 4, 2017, at the Merwick Care and Rehabilitation Center in Plainsboro, NJ.

Born in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, Tony had been a Lambertville resident since 1974. Earlier he had lived in Piscataway. He owned and operated Tony Neylon’s Kelsey Ford and Mercury Dealership in Lambertville for over 30 years. A graduate of Wilkes College, Tony served with the US Army Air Force in World War II in the European Theater. Tony was a 4th Degree member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus St. John the Evangelist Council in Lambertville. He was member and past president of the Lambertville-New Hope Rotary Club. He was a member and past Vice-Commander of the Dunellen Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member the Bound Brook American Legion. Tony was also active with Toastmasters International and participated in their prison outreach program. He taught ham radio for the Princeton Radio Club and was a past president of the Lambertville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Young Men’s Athletic Club of Lambertville. Tony had a great thirst for knowledge. An avid reader, he studied chemistry, physics, astronomy and comparative religions. He was a student of Hebrew and attended Bible study and services at the Synagogue in Flemington. He was an advocate for healthy nutrition and the value of vitamins. He took great pride in his Irish heritage, culture and traditions and often visited and hosted his Irish cousins. While his daughters were attending Villa Victoria Academy, he became active in the Parents’ Club. During the school’s annual 50/50 raffle campaign. Tony raised thousands of dollars to further the work of the Filippini Sisters and Villa Victoria, an effort he participated in long after his girls were grown. In 2013 the school honored Tony’s dedication by inscribing his name on Villa Victoria’s Wall of Fame. He also was active with the Bound Brook Rescue Squad and was past president of the Garden State Truck Club. Above all Tony was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather.

He was the husband of the late Alberta Gilmore Neylon and the son of the late Peter and Sabina Munley Neylon. He is survived by his beloved wife Sharon E. Curtin Neylon; his daughters Maureen Neylon Fox and her husband Charles of Hamilton, NY, Catherine S. Neylon of Lambertville and Mary Ellen Neylon of Frenchtown; his grandchildren Timothy Fox and his wife Susan Richards of Raleigh, NC, Mark Fox and his wife Anne of Darien, CT and Finnegan Neylon of Frenchtown; his great-grandchildren Graff and Chandler Richards, Logan, Keely and Luke Fox; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Kathleen and Deacon Michael Semko of Lambertville, Jim and Lee Curtin of Columbus, NJ and Rebecca and Ray Braun of Doylestown.

The funeral mass will be offered on Tuesday, May 9, at 10:30 am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 44 Bridge Street, Lambertville, NJ 08530.

Interment will be private.

Calling hours will be held at the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, 21 York Street, Lambertville, NJ 08530 (vhmfh.com) on Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm and on Tuesday morning from 9 to 10 am.
