Obituary

Ronah Barnett Gabell, 92, of New Hope, died peacefully on May 3, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family, following a long battle against cancer.

Born in Philadelphia, she graduated from Olney High School and attended Moore College of Art and was proud to have studied with Paulette VanRoekens, Arthur Meltzer and Henry Snell. Ronah was an accomplished artist. She married George Richardson Gabell in October 1943 and they were happily married for 65 years. They began raising their three children in Hatboro, PA. Later they moved to Towson, MD before retiring to Wilmington, NC and then to New Port Richey, FL. They returned to New Hope in 2006 to be closer to their children. She held various jobs over the years, fashion artist for Gimble’s, gift shop owner and other retail positions. She always got involved in clubs and organizations wherever she went: Newcomers, bridge groups, art classes, docent in various historic homes and museums and organizing bus trips. Most recently in New Hope she was a member of the New Hope Historical Society, a volunteer at the New Hope Library and the New Hope Community School. She was an avid reader, gardener, bridge player and expert crossword solver.

Ronah is survived by her three children: Alison Kingsley, Rick Gabell (Linda) and Leslie Crilley (Joe); her grandchildren and their spouses Jeffrey (Meghan), Sarah (Wesley), Colleen and Meredith; her great-grandchildren Audrey, Ryleigh and Charlotte; and her brother Robert Barnett.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 31, at 3 pm at the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, 21 York Street, Lambertville, NJ 08530. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral from 2 pm prior to the services.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice at Doylestown Hospital, 595 W. State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 or to the New Hope Public Library, 93 W. Ferry Street, New Hope, PA 18938.
